I think one of the wonderful things about design is the limitless possibilities it throws up – such variety enables us to furnish our homes with the style that best reflects us (sadly budget has a big part to play in this too, I mean I would love to have Gustav Klimt’s ‘the kiss’ hanging in my bedroom but... )
We have amassed a collection of furniture designs that is nudging the thousand mark – now that is a lot of pieces – all different shapes and sizes, and yet I’m still able to be wowed, surprised and fascinated by the constant evolution of our designs. We at the Banyan Tree love working with our customers on their ideas too, we love seeing the finished product. And often it is the simple changes that produce the most startling results. An ordinary tallboy becomes something very different when you get rid of the knobs on the drawers and replace them with carved handles – or get rid of the handles all together and just have a push open mechanism – now the piece takes on another dynamic – it suddenly becomes a very modern piece of design. How about tapering that square leg on that console table – one tiny tweak and immediately you have something more delicate. It isn’t hard to turn the very ordinary into something extraordinary. And it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to produce wonderful furniture.
I’ll leave this one with you with, this example of the use of colour - look at what a slight variation in tone changes does to the overall aesthetic of this chest of drawers. Which one do you prefer? Personally, and it’s a hard one, I think I prefer the two-tone. And, personally, I prefer to have the choice!
